Four fifth-grade students from an elementary school in Arizona were arrested after police uncovered a disturbing plan to kill a fellow classmate. Authorities say the students intended to lure the boy into a bathroom, stab him, and then forge a suicide note to mislead investigators.

The incident took place at a school in Surprise, Arizona, on October 1, 2024. According to the police report, a student overheard a group discussing the murder plot during lunch and immediately told a parent. That parent then alerted school officials.

The next morning, school staff began an internal investigation. Police were later called to take statements from the involved students. What unfolded in those interviews painted a chilling picture of peer pressure, emotional conflict, and an apparent intent to cause serious harm.

One of the girls in the group was reportedly upset with the intended victim, who had allegedly “cheated” on her during a brief school relationship. According to police, she expressed deep anger and hatred toward the boy. The report states she told others she wanted him dead and led the planning effort.

During lunch on the day of the report, the group of students discussed how to “end him.” Their alleged plan was to bring the boy into the bathroom and stab him in the stomach. They also intended to wear gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. After the attack, they would plant a suicide note to make the death seem self-inflicted.

One of the girls who was part of the group told investigators she had originally laughed along with the conversation. But she said she began to back away once it became clear others were taking the plan seriously.

Another student told police she stayed in the conversation only because she feared being labeled “weird” if she didn’t go along. She claimed she didn’t believe anyone would follow through with the plan.

A third student said the conversation about harming the classmate made her uncomfortable. At first, she also thought it was a joke. But when she was assigned the role of guard during the planned attack, she began to realize that the others were serious.

The intended victim was not harmed, thanks to the quick actions of the student who overheard the conversation. The boy’s mother later told police she would cooperate with efforts to prosecute the students involved.

The four suspects, all aged either 10 or 11, were arrested and charged with one count each of threatening and disorderly conduct. Police released them into the custody of their parents. The students were suspended and now face possible expulsion from the school.

According to the police report, three of the students and their families showed regret. They apologized for their actions. However, one student did not appear to take the situation seriously. She reportedly smiled, laughed, and made excuses during her interview. Her parent also did not express concern.

The school issued a statement emphasizing that student safety is their highest priority. Officials acted quickly once the plot was reported. The school cited federal student privacy laws as the reason they could not share more details about disciplinary measures.

The school also referred to its code of conduct, which clearly states that students who make or share threats can face strict punishment, including expulsion.

Authorities said they are still reviewing the incident, but they credit the student who reported the conversation for potentially saving a life. The case serves as a strong reminder of the importance of speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.

The families of the students who were arrested have not yet responded to requests for comment. The identity of the intended victim has been kept confidential due to privacy laws and the ages of the students involved.
