Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 on Tuesday, September 9, and new leaks suggest a major change: full eSIM support and a redesigned Clear Case. Current iPhone models sold in the United States already rely solely on eSIMs. Now, sources say Apple Authorized Reseller employees in the EU are preparing to sell iPhones without physical SIM cards. This means more countries could soon see iPhones that work exclusively with eSIM technology.

The upcoming iPhone 17 Air model has long been rumored to drop physical SIM support, and it appears Apple could extend this design to other iPhone 17 models worldwide. eSIMs are praised for convenience and security. Users no longer need to swap cards when changing carriers, and the digital system is harder to hack. This move mirrors recent trends, such as Google’s Pixel 10 series, which now ships eSIM-only in the US.

Leaks also reveal changes to the official iPhone 17 Pro Clear Case with MagSafe. Images shared by tipsters @MajinBuOfficial and @SonnyDickson show a partially opaque back panel covering the MagSafe connectors. This is a departure from fully transparent cases for previous models. The new design also features a larger cut-out for the cameras at the top. The Apple logo has been repositioned below the cameras to fit the new layout. The case is expected to support a rumored Crossbody Strap accessory, allowing users to carry their iPhone with a magnetic lanyard. These updates suggest Apple is making subtle yet practical improvements to its accessories alongside the new phone.

The shift to eSIM-only iPhones is part of a broader industry trend. Apple has already moved US iPhones to eSIM-only setups. Expanding this internationally would streamline production and improve user experience. Retail employees being told to prepare for eSIM-only devices indicates Apple is serious about this transition. eSIM technology offers enhanced security. Unlike physical SIM cards, digital eSIMs cannot be removed or lost. Users can switch carriers without visiting a store or handling tiny SIM cards. The convenience factor is another win. With all carriers supported digitally, Apple can ensure global users enjoy the same streamlined setup.

With less than a week until the official launch, Apple fans are eager to see how these leaks hold up. The iPhone 17 line may feature full eSIM support across multiple models and new accessory designs, including the MagSafe Clear Case and Crossbody Strap. Apple continues to refine both hardware and user experience with each iteration. While previous models already integrated small design tweaks and improved accessories, the move to eSIM-only devices represents a significant step forward. Consumers can likely expect a smoother setup, better security, and modern accessories that match the redesigned phone. Apple may continue expanding eSIM support globally after this launch, following trends set by other tech giants. Apple watchers will soon confirm whether the leaks are accurate and what the iPhone 17 will bring to users worldwide.
