Jordan reopened its airspace to civilian flights early Saturday after closing it due to rising tensions between Iran and Israel. The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission confirmed that airspace operations resumed at 7:30 a.m. local time (04:30 GMT). The decision followed a 24-hour suspension of flights aimed at ensuring public safety during a period of regional uncertainty.

The closure began on Friday when fears grew that military actions between Iran and Israel could spread into neighboring countries. Flights were paused, and airlines had to delay or reroute their paths to avoid Jordanian airspace. The Jordanian government emphasized that the move was precautionary and designed to protect both the country’s sovereignty and its civilian population.

Government officials said Jordan would not allow its airspace to be used by foreign militaries or become a site of conflict. They stressed that the country aims to remain a neutral and safe zone in a region often affected by military disputes. The temporary suspension affected major international airlines, including carriers from the Gulf, Turkey, and Europe.

Experts in aviation security noted that Jordan’s move was a necessary step to reduce risks during a volatile situation. Countries located between conflict zones often take such actions to ensure that no civilian aircraft are mistakenly caught in military operations or targeted by accident.

The Iran-Israel conflict has seen new tensions in recent weeks. Iran has warned of consequences if Israel continues to take military actions in Syria and elsewhere. Israel has also raised concerns about Iran’s presence and support of armed groups near its borders. These developments have raised alert levels in the region, especially for nations like Jordan that share proximity with both parties.

Despite the reopening of the skies, Jordan continues to monitor the situation. Civil aviation authorities are staying in contact with regional partners and are ready to implement new measures if necessary. The return to normal air traffic comes with a strong message that Jordan prioritizes safety and stability above all.

Airlines affected by the temporary closure are working to restore normal schedules. Some delays may continue in the short term, but most carriers have resumed their routes through Jordanian airspace. Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines for the latest updates.

Jordan’s decision to reopen the skies reflects its ongoing commitment to neutrality and calm in the Middle East. Known for being a safe zone amid conflicts, Jordan often takes a careful and balanced approach to security challenges in the region.

The reopening is seen as a sign that immediate threats have passed, but authorities remain cautious. If tensions rise again, Jordan is expected to act swiftly to protect its population and infrastructure.
