A peaceful Sunday morning turned violent when a gunman opened fire outside a church in Wayne, Michigan, injuring one person before being shot and killed. The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. at Crosspointe Community Church, located about 30 miles west of Detroit.

According to police, about 150 people were gathered inside the church for service when the situation unfolded. The attacker was first seen driving in a strange and reckless manner. Witnesses say he was wearing a tactical vest and had at least two guns with him.

As the man approached the church, a bystander tried to block his path using a pickup truck. Police say the suspect opened fire on the truck. Moments later, the church’s security guard responded and fatally shot the attacker.

Authorities confirmed that one person was shot in the leg. Church officials later said it was the security guard who got hurt while confronting the suspect. His actions are being praised for likely preventing further harm.

Police Chief Ryan Strong addressed the media, saying the suspect was identified as a 31-year-old male. Officials believe he was suffering from a mental health crisis. His name and possible motive have not been released yet.

The police said the truck driver’s quick action gave the guard extra time to respond. The guard’s response helped stop the threat before the suspect could enter the building. Investigators believe the attacker was acting alone.

Law enforcement, including federal agents, are still gathering details. “Our leadership and support teams are on the ground providing assistance and investigative support,” said FBI Director Dan Bongino in a statement.

The Department of Homeland Security is also monitoring the situation. Officials have urged people to stay away from the area while the investigation continues. Police and federal agents are working to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.

The church, shaken but thankful for the swift response, has not announced whether services will resume next Sunday. Members of the church community are being offered counseling and support.

Wayne Police have not confirmed whether the weapons were legally owned or how the suspect obtained them. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking to those who were present.

Many churchgoers expressed shock over the violence. A few said they noticed the man outside but didn’t expect anything dangerous. Some reported hearing gunshots while they were still inside the building.

Though the injured security guard is expected to recover, the incident has raised concerns about safety in public spaces. Community leaders and faith groups are calling for increased protection at houses of worship.

The Michigan church shooting is the latest in a series of attacks that have targeted religious sites across the country. Experts say the event highlights the importance of mental health care and early intervention.

Investigators are now trying to learn more about the suspect’s background. Police are checking his past records, social media accounts, and possible contacts. They want to understand what may have led him to carry out this act.

Officials have said there is no further threat to the public at this time. They are confident the gunman acted alone and had no help.

Support services have been set up for those affected. Local counselors and emergency teams are helping the church community cope with the trauma.

The story is still developing as police gather more details. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
