Stagecoach South is offering free bus travel to military personnel, veterans, and cadets on VE Day 80th Anniversary, Thursday, May 8. This initiative will cover areas including Andover, Aldershot, Basingstoke, Chichester, Portsmouth, Guildford, Winchester, Worthing, and nearby communities.
The free travel service aims to help those eligible attend local VE Day commemorations and events. VE Day marks the end of World War II in Europe, which occurred on May 8, 1945. The 80th anniversary this year honors the bravery and sacrifice of those who served during the war.
Support for the Armed Forces Community
Stagecoach South’s initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces. The company has previously provided free travel during Armed Forces Weekends and Remembrance Days.
Stagecoach South recognizes the importance of honoring those who served. Offering free travel on VE Day is a gesture of appreciation for the contributions made by service members, both past and present.
Who Is Eligible for Free Travel?
The free travel offer is available to military personnel in uniform, veterans with a veteran’s badge or medal, and cadets in uniform. Individuals must either wear their uniform or carry a military ID to qualify.
Stagecoach South’s Special VE Day Bus
In addition to the free travel offer, Stagecoach South will unveil a specially decorated bus for VE Day. The bus, in collaboration with The D-Day Story Museum, will celebrate the spirit and sacrifices of the wartime generation.
This decorated bus is part of Stagecoach South’s continued efforts to commemorate the important contributions of the Armed Forces community. The bus will be featured in local events and will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II.
Veterans Network and Long-standing Support
Stagecoach’s employee-led Veterans Network is also actively supporting the initiative. This network aims to unite colleagues with shared experiences, amplify their voices, and promote positive change for the Armed Forces community.
Since March 2015, Stagecoach has been a proud member of the Armed Forces Covenant, recognizing the value of military personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans, and their families. The company acknowledges the vital role that these individuals play not only in the country’s defense but also in the workforce.
Exclusions and Additional Information
It’s important to note that the free travel offer does not apply to services operated by Megabus, TfL, or the Bee Network. Stagecoach South operates a fleet of 460 buses, providing services to various communities across Andover, Aldershot, Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth, Winchester, Worthing, and the surrounding areas.
