One person was killed after a U-Haul truck exploded in a parking lot in Lewiston, Idaho, officials said. The blast caused damage to nearby businesses, including a Courtyard Marriott hotel and an Old Navy store.
Authorities reported that the vehicle was carrying stored materials, including flammable items such as gasoline and propane tanks. Despite the explosion, no fire occurred after the incident.
Lewiston Fire Marshal Julian Sorrell stated, “At this time, there is no indication the incident is criminal in nature.”
The Lewiston Fire Department and the City of Lewiston Police Department confirmed the explosion caused significant damage within the blast radius.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances of the explosion to determine its exact cause. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased.
