Evangeline Lilly has opened up about her brain injury recovery plan after a serious accident left her with long-term effects. The actress shared insights into a costly and detailed regimen aimed at improving her brain function.
In a video posted to her 2.6 million Instagram followers, Lilly said she is working with experts to address “deficiencies in my brain” following the injury. She emphasized that her goal is to regain normal function after the accident, which occurred in Hawaii last May.
On January 3, Lilly revealed that she sustained a traumatic brain injury after fainting on a beach and hitting her head. Medical scans later showed that “almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.”
Nearly a month later, she returned online to explain the supplements and treatments she has added to her routine to support recovery.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to access the care my body needs without money being a barrier,” Lilly said. She added that sharing her experience might help others who are recovering from a concussion or brain injury.
Although she does not claim to be an expert or endorse specific brands, Lilly detailed the supplements she uses. Her regimen includes omega-3s, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), creatine, and curcumin, a turmeric-derived anti-inflammatory supplement. She explained how often she takes them and under what circumstances.
“This is a lot of supplements,” Lilly admitted. She clarified that she takes them “as needed” rather than daily and plans to continue until she feels her brain has received enough support. Lilly also prefers to get nutrients from food but acknowledges that supplements can be highly useful when extra help is required.
The Canadian star first shared the details of her accident in May on her Substack blog. She described fainting at the beach and falling face-first onto a boulder. Medical staff focused on finding the cause of the blackout rather than attending to her facial injury immediately.
Even before the accident, Lilly had announced her decision to step away from Hollywood after more than 20 years. She began her career on shows like Smallville and appeared in films such as The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
“Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice—wealth and fame—can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment,” she wrote. Lilly added that she may return to Hollywood one day but, for now, she is focused on her personal path and recovery.
Her transparency about the treatment plan includes guidance on timing and dosage but stops short of recommending exact brands. Lilly stressed that the goal is to help the brain recover from traumatic injury, and she hopes her experience can serve as an example for others dealing with similar challenges.
The supplements she uses are recognized for their potential brain benefits. Omega-3s support cognitive function, NAC acts as an antioxidant, creatine aids energy in brain cells, and curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties. Experts suggest these nutrients can complement recovery after traumatic brain injury when combined with professional care.
By sharing her journey, Lilly highlights the importance of personalized medical guidance and attention to brain health after trauma. Her experience also underscores the financial and emotional challenges involved in intensive recovery programs.
Evangeline Lilly’s approach shows a commitment to long-term healing. Her focus on expert guidance, nutrition, and supplemental support may inspire others facing similar recovery paths. The actress continues to update followers on her progress, encouraging awareness and proactive care for brain injuries.
