A major fire broke out at an apartment building under construction in southeast Denver, near the Glendale area, on Friday evening, causing widespread power outages. Flames consumed the building’s frame while thick smoke filled the night sky, prompting a large emergency response.

Images shared by Denver Fire Department on X showed fire trucks, flashing lights, and dense smoke rising above the construction site. More than 100 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze, which fire officials described as deep-seated and challenging to extinguish.

One firefighter was injured during operations and was taken to Denver Health for treatment. Division Chief Robert Murphy of Denver Fire told KMGH TV that the fire was not yet fully under control and that crews were focusing on deep-seated hotspots within the structure.

Authorities closed Leetsdale Drive in the area to allow firefighters to continue their operations safely. The closure is expected to remain in effect while the fire is brought under control.

Glendale police announced a temporary shelter has been set up at a nearby event center to support residents affected by the fire and power outages. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the community’s safety.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Fire investigators are expected to examine the site once it is safe to access, and authorities urge residents to avoid the area until the scene is fully cleared.

Officials emphasized the importance of community safety and thanked emergency personnel for their rapid response. The fire has highlighted the risks associated with construction sites and the challenges of responding to large-scale urban fires.

As of Friday night, residents in nearby buildings and streets remained without power, with utility crews working to restore electricity once it is safe to do so. Emergency services continue to coordinate with local authorities to manage the situation and provide support to those affected.

Denver firefighters are expected to remain on the scene for several hours to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. Residents are advised to stay clear of the area and follow updates from local authorities regarding road closures and shelter locations.

The incident serves as a reminder of the hazards associated with construction sites and the critical role of firefighters and first responders in protecting communities during emergencies.
