George Clooney has shared insights into raising his 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, with wife Amal Clooney. The actor, 64, spoke about his relationship with the children during an appearance on the December 3 episode of New Heights.
Clooney said his twins “still dig” him, but joked that this will change as they grow older. “That’s gonna change, as you know,” he said. Retired NFL star Jason Kelce added, “The teenage years are coming,” prompting Clooney to note that even at eight, his daughter has started rolling her eyes.
“You know, I say, ‘Hey, your dad’s a big star,’ and she just rolls her eyes,” Clooney said, highlighting the small shifts in their growing personalities.
Despite their busy careers, George and Amal prioritize family time. At the premiere of Netflix’s Jay Kelly, Clooney explained how they balance work with parenting. “You try to pace it so that I’m doing it and then she’s home, and then she goes and I’m home. We try to mix it up a little bit,” he said. “But, you know, you’re never going to get it all right. No one does. My parents didn’t. You do the best you can.”
Amal Clooney has also emphasized maintaining privacy at home. She recently told Glamour that when guests visit, she collects their phones to create a safe space for private moments. “Creating private moments and spaces is becoming increasingly difficult. But that’s also why we entertain a lot at home,” she said.
She added that parenting has made her more aware of intrusions and their effects on children. “We do the best we can to minimize any impact on our children. We don’t put our children out there, we’ve never put their photo out there or anything like that,” Amal said.
The Clooneys also value raising their children away from Hollywood’s pressures. In an interview with Esquire, George shared that they live on a farm in France, giving the twins a quieter, more grounded childhood. “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he said.
The actor explained that farm life encourages family connection and daily responsibilities. “They’re not on their iPads, they have dinner with grown-ups, and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life,” he said.
George noted that living in France also shields the children from fame and paparazzi. “They kind of don’t give a s— about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids,” he added.
The Clooneys strive to balance family, career, and privacy while ensuring their children grow up with normal routines and values. George said he considers himself “very lucky” to raise Alexander and Ella in a safe, nurturing environment.
Even as the twins begin showing signs of independence and personality—like rolling their eyes or teasing their dad—George and Amal maintain an open, supportive home. Their approach blends structure, engagement, and protection from outside pressures.
For George, parenting is both rewarding and challenging. He enjoys the playful moments and milestones, yet understands that his children’s needs come first. The couple’s commitment to family privacy allows the twins to experience childhood without constant media attention.
By living on a farm, sharing responsibilities, and setting boundaries around fame and technology, George and Amal Clooney are creating a childhood for Alexander and Ella that balances love, learning, and normalcy. As the twins grow, George remains mindful that parenting requires patience, attention, and adapting to changing needs.
