Indian fighter jet shot down again by Pakistan, the government claims, bringing the total number of downed Indian aircraft to six. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the incident on Thursday during a military base visit.
According to a report from the Pakistani news outlet Express Tribune, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) downed the Indian aircraft in Kashmir’s Pampore area during the night of May 6 to 7. The jet is believed to be a Mirage 2000.
The Prime Minister made the statement while visiting an operational base of the Pakistan Air Force in Kamra. He praised the military for its quick response and strong defense. He said the incident is proof of the armed forces’ skill and strong will to protect the country.
“This is a clear sign of our air force’s high level of training and the strong promise of our armed forces to defend our homeland,” Sharif said during his visit.
The Pakistani military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), also released a statement. It confirmed the Prime Minister’s visit and said he met with frontline air force personnel, including pilots, engineers, and technicians. He praised their dedication, skill, and loyalty to Pakistan’s defense.
Sharif also said that India’s “unjustified aggression” was met with a well-planned and strategic reply. He noted that Pakistan’s military was calm and smart in its actions. Their response, he added, not only stopped the threat but also damaged Indian military infrastructure.
“This shows Pakistan is fully ready to defend its sovereignty and borders,” Sharif stated. He also said the military’s strength and alertness makes the whole nation proud.
The Prime Minister gave special thanks to the head of the Pakistan Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. He appreciated the steps taken to modernize the air force with new technology.
Earlier, Pakistan had claimed to shoot down five Indian jets during a conflict. These included three Rafale fighter jets, one MiG-29, and one SU-30. With the new claim of the Mirage 2000 being destroyed, the total now stands at six.
India has not responded directly to these claims. So far, Indian officials have stayed silent about any jets being shot down. The Indian government has only said that losses are “part of war” and have made no mention of losing aircraft to Pakistani attacks.
The situation between the two countries remains tense. Pakistan has been vocal about what it calls India’s repeated acts of aggression. At the same time, India has continued to focus on national security and military readiness.
While Pakistan has made these claims in public, no independent sources have confirmed the downing of these aircraft. The exact details of the incidents, including visual proof or international verification, are still unknown.
Both countries have a long history of conflict, especially over the Kashmir region. Clashes in the air are rare but can quickly lead to larger military problems. Experts say both sides should work to reduce tension before things get worse.
Still, for now, Pakistan’s latest statement adds to the growing war of words between the two neighbors. The claims may also raise concerns among international observers who fear any major escalation in the region.
