Kate Middleton will honor a late royal family member at her annual Christmas carol service this December. The Princess of Wales will host her fifth “Together at Christmas” Carol Service on Friday, Dec. 5, in London. The event will include a special tribute to Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, who passed away at the age of 92 in September.

Katharine, married to Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, was a devoted supporter of music. She worked quietly as a music teacher and co-founded a charity to help musically gifted children from low-income families. Princess Kate invited young performers from this charity to take part in the festive event, highlighting Katharine’s lifelong passion for music.

Before guests enter Westminster Abbey for the carol service, they will hear performances by young musicians from Future Talent. The group was created in 2004 to give children across the U.K. a chance to develop their musical skills regardless of financial background. This involvement provides young performers a prestigious opportunity to perform in a royal setting while honoring Katharine’s legacy.

Princess Kate attended the Duchess of Kent’s funeral on Sept. 16, paying her respects alongside other royal family members. The upcoming Christmas carol service will be another moment to celebrate family unity and remember the late duchess.

The theme for this year’s “Together at Christmas” is “love in all its forms.” The choice carries added significance, following Princess Kate’s recent announcement that she is in remission from cancer. The holiday event promises to be a celebration of hope, resilience, and shared joy.

The carol service will welcome 1,600 guests to Westminster Abbey. In addition to the young musicians, the program will feature performances by renowned artists, including Kate Winslet, Hannah Waddingham, Dan Smith, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Their participation ensures a memorable evening combining royal tradition and artistic talent.

Princess Kate’s initiative to include Future Talent in the carol service emphasizes her dedication to supporting young people in the arts. It also reflects Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s commitment to music education and providing opportunities for children to flourish.

“Katharine was always passionate about nurturing young talent, and this tribute ensures her legacy lives on,” said a palace spokesperson. “The carol service combines remembrance with celebration, reflecting the Duchess of Kent’s spirit.”

“Together at Christmas” has become a highlight of the royal calendar, with Princess Kate hosting the service annually to mark the start of the holiday season. The event blends traditional Christmas music with performances from emerging artists, bringing communities together and celebrating the festive spirit.

This year, the service will be especially poignant as it marks a return to public celebrations after Princess Kate’s health challenges. By honoring Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, the Princess of Wales continues the royal family tradition of combining charitable work, public engagement, and music.

The December 5 service is expected to draw wide public attention, with media and royal watchers highlighting both the musical performances and the tribute to the late duchess. It also reinforces Princess Kate’s role as a champion of youth arts programs and a supporter of initiatives that give young people a stage to shine.

As the holiday season approaches, “Together at Christmas” promises to be an uplifting event filled with music, reflection, and royal family connections. The service allows Princess Kate to celebrate the festive season while honoring a beloved family member, blending tradition with meaningful acts of remembrance.
