Novak Djokovic extended his unbeaten record against Taylor Fritz on Tuesday night, securing a hard-fought win that booked his place in the US Open semifinals. Under the bright lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium, Djokovic fended off 10 break points before ultimately winning 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

The match began with Djokovic, the seventh seed, showcasing his composure against the American contender. Fritz, seeded fourth, struggled with unforced errors and double faults at crucial moments, giving Djokovic an early advantage. When Fritz threatened to gain ground, Djokovic responded immediately, breaking back to maintain control of the first two sets.

In the second set, Fritz raised his level, winning the early service games and briefly unsettling Djokovic. Yet, Djokovic’s experience proved decisive. A key sequence in the 10th game, where Fritz double-faulted twice, allowed Djokovic to regain the break and close the set. The Serbian champion celebrated his victories with brief gestures to the audience, reflecting both his confidence and command on court.

Fritz fought back strongly in the third set, delivering powerful serves and capitalizing on crowd support to claim a 6-3 win. Despite the American’s efforts, Djokovic maintained his focus in the fourth set. The two traded service games until Djokovic broke Fritz in the 10th game, closing out the match with consistent groundstrokes and strategic play.

At 38 years old, Djokovic continues to defy expectations. During the match, he displayed remarkable skill, including a flashy tweener in the third set that, while not winning the point, highlighted his court awareness and flair. His resilience has been evident throughout the tournament, overcoming a toe blister in the opening round and recovering after dropping an opening set against Zachary Svajda.

This victory keeps Djokovic undefeated against Fritz, extending his record to 11-0. He now faces Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in Friday’s semifinals, in a matchup expected to be a high-stakes showdown. Djokovic leads the head-to-head 5-3 against the 22-year-old Alcaraz, who has yet to lose a set in this year’s US Open. Alcaraz is seeking redemption after his Wimbledon final loss to Djokovic’s rivals and aims to capture another Grand Slam title.

Djokovic’s journey to this stage has been a testament to his experience and perseverance. Injuries have challenged him in recent months, including a torn hamstring at the Australian Open and a meniscus surgery during the French Open. Nevertheless, he has shown remarkable recovery and endurance, becoming the oldest player to reach the US Open quarterfinals since Jimmy Connors in 1991.

Throughout his career, Djokovic has demonstrated exceptional Grand Slam consistency. His performance this year at the US Open has reinforced his reputation, reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the 75th time. Despite age and injury risks, he continues to maintain a level of play that challenges younger competitors, combining strategic shot-making with mental toughness.

Fritz’s efforts, while impressive, could not overcome Djokovic’s experience. The American’s backhand and forehand improved as the match progressed, but critical errors at pivotal moments prevented him from securing a comeback. Djokovic’s ability to save break points under pressure and capitalize on mistakes highlights why he remains a dominant force in men’s tennis.

With a semifinal clash against Alcaraz on the horizon, Djokovic is aiming for his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. His ability to navigate high-pressure matches, recover from physical setbacks, and adapt strategically on court continues to position him as one of the sport’s all-time greats. Fans can anticipate an electrifying match as Djokovic seeks to extend his US Open legacy and challenge one of the most talented players of the new generation.
