A policy expert has raised concerns that political opposition parties and some community leaders are worsening insecurity in Nigeria. Dr. Lanre Adebayo, Director General of The Progressive Institute (TPI) in Abuja, made this known during a meeting with civil society groups, media professionals, and political stakeholders.

He said many political figures do not understand the difference between campaign activities and real governance. According to him, some of them spread misleading information just to gain support or attack the government.

Dr. Adebayo warned that this behavior can trigger violence, especially in communities that are already facing tension. He pointed to a recent case where a local crisis broke out after a politician made a harmful public statement. He said this is a clear example of how careless remarks can lead to insecurity.

He encouraged all public leaders, including politicians, religious figures, and community heads, to think carefully before making statements that could stir up unrest. He called for a more peaceful and responsible way of engaging with the government.

Dr. Adebayo also urged critics of the government to focus on facts and real solutions instead of fueling division. He said that peaceful dialogue and thoughtful criticism are essential for the country to stay united and safe.

In the meeting, Dr. Adebayo also spoke about the upcoming activities of The Progressive Institute. He announced that a three-day review program of the current government’s progress will be held soon. The event will focus on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He explained that this midterm review will look at the president’s goals and what has been done in each sector so far. The aim is to give Nigerians a full picture of the government’s achievements and challenges after two years in office.

The TPI Director General said the review will include exhibitions and open discussions. It will show what was promised during the last election and what has actually been delivered. The goal is to provide honest and clear information to the public.

He also criticized the lack of clear vision in many political parties across Africa. Dr. Adebayo said that many parties operate without strong ideologies, making it hard for voters to understand what they truly stand for.

He stressed the need for all political groups to protect and grow Nigeria’s democracy. He said that democracy works best when parties have clear values and follow them.

According to Dr. Adebayo, TPI is currently developing a strong ideological base for the ruling party. He believes this step is important for long-term political growth and national unity.

He concluded by saying that political leaders should focus more on building trust, peace, and progress for all Nigerians. He believes that when leaders act responsibly, the country can reduce violence and move forward.
