A Russian attack in Ukraine has killed six civilians as Kyiv continues to face frequent missile and drone strikes. Residents took shelter in subways and metro stations, while emergency services worked through the night to put out fires and search for survivors.

The attack comes as a Ukrainian government delegation traveled to the United States to discuss Washington’s proposed peace plan. Despite the talks, many Ukrainians remain skeptical about achieving peace soon. “With such a neighbor, I doubt there will be peace anytime soon. It is getting worse every day,” said a resident.

Analysts say these attacks are part of a Russian strategy to intimidate civilians and pressure Kyiv into concessions. Air defense units continue to intercept incoming missiles and drones, but some inevitably strike populated areas, causing casualties and damage.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s negotiating team has seen significant changes. Rustam Umeov, head of the National Security Council, has taken over negotiations following the resignation of Andrew Yermach, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s former chief of staff and lead negotiator. Yermach stepped down amid an escalating corruption scandal, which has shaken public trust in the government.

Many Ukrainians criticized Yermach’s tenure, arguing that corruption hindered the country’s ability to defend itself. “There is so much corruption in the country that it prevents us from waging war effectively,” one resident said. While Yermach has not been charged, his resignation comes at a critical time for Ukraine as its territorial integrity and security remain under threat.

Umeov, although questioned by anti-corruption investigators himself, has been chosen to lead the peace negotiations with the United States. Observers are closely watching whether his leadership can restore credibility and secure meaningful support from international allies.

On the same day as the Russian strike, Ukraine’s security services claimed responsibility for a sea drone attack on two Russian oil tankers near the Bosphorus Strait. The move signals Kyiv’s continued push for tougher international sanctions against Russian oil exports, which Ukraine says fund the ongoing war.

The combination of military attacks, political upheaval, and international diplomacy underscores the immense pressure on Ukraine. Civilians remain on high alert, while the government seeks both external support and internal reforms to maintain public trust and security.

As the conflict enters its fourth year, experts warn that the path to peace is uncertain. Russian attacks continue to target urban areas, putting civilians at risk while international negotiations proceed. Kyiv’s leadership faces a dual challenge: defending its territory and demonstrating accountability amid corruption concerns.

Residents of Kyiv and other affected regions continue to live with the constant threat of attacks. The human toll of the conflict, coupled with political instability, highlights the urgency of both military and diplomatic solutions.
