Addis Ababa, February 10, 2025 (FMC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in Juba said goodbye to South Sudanese students who received scholarships from Ethiopia.
For the 2024/2025 academic year, Ethiopia gave 110 scholarships to students for TVET undergraduate programs. These scholarships were part of 644 total scholarships given for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in many fields. The scholarships are based on a new agreement between Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education and South Sudan’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
At the farewell event in Juba, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Nebil Mahdi, congratulated the students who received scholarships.
The Ambassador promised that Ethiopia would keep helping South Sudan with education and development. He asked the students to focus on their studies and return home after finishing their degrees to help their country.
Prof. Touch Liem, South Sudan’s Director General of Training and External Relations, thanked Ethiopia for its help. He encouraged students to study hard and honor the work of past alumni. He also told students to feel at home in Ethiopia, as it will be their second home while they study.
