England’s Ben Duckett made history in the Champions Trophy 2025 by scoring a sensational 165 runs against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. His record-breaking innings propelled England to a formidable total of 351/8, the highest ever posted by the Three Lions in the tournament’s history.

Duckett’s knock surpassed former New Zealand batsman Nathan Astle’s 145* against the USA in 2004, making it the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history. His innings, laced with elegant strokes and aggressive intent, cemented his place in the record books and put England in a commanding position.

    Duckett’s Heroics Anchor England’s Innings

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, England faced early setbacks as Ben Dwarshuis dismissed Phil Salt and Jamie Smith cheaply. However, Duckett rose to the occasion, counter-attacking the Australian bowling attack with remarkable precision.

The 30-year-old left-hander found an able ally in Joe Root, with whom he stitched a crucial 158-run partnership. While Root provided stability with his measured approach, Duckett took on the bowlers, showcasing his aggressive stroke play.

After Root’s departure, England lost wickets at regular intervals, but Duckett continued his onslaught. His innings came off just 143 balls and included 14 boundaries and five sixes. His milestone innings was a mix of skill, temperament, and controlled aggression, making it one of the most memorable knocks in the tournament’s history.

Duckett’s innings not only earned him a spot at the top of this elite list but also provided England with a strong platform against their arch-rivals.

England Capitalizes on Australia’s Weakened Bowling Attack

Australia entered the match without their star pacers, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, leaving their bowling unit significantly weakened. Ben Dwarshuis made an early impact, but England capitalized on the lack of experience in Australia’s attack.

Despite wickets falling in the middle overs, England managed to keep the scoreboard ticking. Towards the end, Jofra Archer played a blistering cameo, smashing 21* off just 10 balls, helping England cross the 350-run mark.

Australia’s Chase: A Steep Task Ahead

With a mammoth target of 352, Australia will rely heavily on Travis Head and Steve Smith to anchor their innings. However, the absence of Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis could further dent their chances. The dew factor might aid the batters in the second innings, but England’s potent bowling attack, led by Archer and Mark Wood, will look to defend the total and start their campaign on a winning note.

Ben Duckett’s masterclass has not only rewritten history but also set the tone for England’s campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025.
