The rapid development of Hoima City Stadium has captured government attention, setting the stage for Turkish construction firm Summa to take over the next phase of renovations at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Summa’s Expanding Role in Ugandan Sports Infrastructure

Summa, the firm currently transforming Hoima into a world-class sports hub, is expected to assume responsibility for Namboole’s renovation after Uganda Cranes’ World Cup Qualifier against Somalia in September. The decision marks a significant shift from the UPDF Engineering Brigade, which has been handling the initial phase of the stadium’s upgrades.

According to Summa, concrete works at Hoima Stadium should be completed by April. This milestone will allow for the finalization of the main stadium structure, with football matches expected to begin by August. Meanwhile, additional facilities, including an indoor arena and swimming pool, will continue to take shape.

Hoima Becomes a Temporary Home for National Teams

With the expected shift in September, Uganda’s national teams will temporarily host their home games at Hoima City Stadium while Namboole undergoes further enhancements. This transition ensures that international matches can continue uninterrupted while providing athletes with a modern venue.

Lt. Col. English Peter Kidemuka of the UPDF Engineering Brigade previously confirmed that Namboole’s next phase will feature significant upgrades. These include a canopy over the stands, expanded VVIP seating, and an increase in overall stadium capacity to accommodate more fans.

Uganda’s Growing Investment in Sports Facilities

The development of Hoima Stadium aligns with Uganda’s broader vision of improving sports infrastructure. The government has prioritized investments in modern facilities to enhance sports development and attract international tournaments.

Namboole Stadium, Uganda’s most iconic sports venue, has been undergoing phased renovations to meet international standards. With Summa now leading the next stage, expectations are high for a timely and high-quality transformation.

As Summa advances work on Hoima Stadium and prepares to take over Namboole’s renovation, Ugandan sports fans can anticipate improved facilities that will elevate the country’s standing in regional and global competitions. The continued focus on infrastructure development is a step toward ensuring that Uganda remains a key player in African sports.
