Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has taken full responsibility for the serious injury suffered by quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels, who had one of the most impressive rookie seasons in NFL history, dislocated his left elbow during Sunday’s 38-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Although Daniels throws with his right arm, the injury is severe enough to cast doubt on the remainder of his season.

The injury was so serious that the television broadcast avoided replays, and several players turned away as medical staff treated Daniels on the field.

Many critics argued that Daniels should not have played at all in the fourth quarter, with the team trailing by a large margin. It is standard practice in such situations to put in a backup quarterback to protect the starter from injury.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, too, and, man, I missed it. That is 100% on me,” Quinn said.

Marcus Mariota will now take over as the Commanders’ starting quarterback. He faces the challenge of leading a team struggling with injuries and performance issues.

Last season, Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC championship game. This year, the team has struggled. On Sunday, the team also lost cornerback Marshon Lattimore to a torn ACL and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey to a broken collarbone. Many other key players are on injured reserve.

The Commanders currently hold a 3-6 record. With so many injuries and a difficult schedule ahead, making the playoffs appears unlikely without a major turnaround.

Quinn’s acceptance of responsibility is rare in the NFL, where coaches often deflect blame after injuries. The decision to leave Daniels in the game despite the score will be remembered as a key moment in the team’s difficult season.

The injury raises questions about player safety and management decisions. Daniels’s absence will force the team to adjust its strategy and rely on backup players. Fans and analysts have expressed concern about how the team can remain competitive under these circumstances.

Daniels’s performance last season earned him recognition as one of the league’s most promising young quarterbacks. Losing him for an extended period is a major setback for the Commanders, both on the field and in team morale.

The Commanders now face a critical stretch of games. Mariota’s leadership will be tested as the team tries to salvage the season while managing a depleted roster. The organization must balance player safety with the need to remain competitive.

Quinn’s statement highlights accountability in professional sports, showing that coaches sometimes take responsibility for tough decisions. The NFL season continues, but the impact of Daniels’s injury will be felt across the league.
