Apple users have only a short time left to apply for a cash payment from a $95 million class action lawsuit. The case accuses Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, of recording users without permission. People who used a Siri-enabled device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, could receive a payout of up to $100. The deadline to file a claim is Wednesday, July 2.

The lawsuit, officially titled Lopez v. Apple, was filed in federal court in California in 2021. Users said that their private conversations were being recorded by Siri when it was triggered accidentally. These unintended activations led to private audio being captured and, in some cases, shared with third-party contractors. Apple has denied these claims but agreed to the $95 million settlement to resolve the matter.

Anyone who owned or purchased an Apple product with Siri capability during the time period covered by the case may be eligible. Devices that qualify include iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, iMacs, iPod Touches, Apple TVs, and HomePods. Users must confirm that they experienced a moment when Siri turned on during a private conversation, without being prompted.

The lawsuit claims that some people noticed ads for items they had only talked about, not searched for. Others said Siri activated and listened even though they never said “Hey Siri.” A 2019 news report revealed that Apple contractors heard parts of private conversations while reviewing recordings to improve Siri’s performance. At the time, Apple said only a small sample of recordings was used, and it was for development purposes.

If you’re eligible, you can file your claim on the Lopez Voice Assistant Settlement website. Some users received an email or postcard with a claim ID and confirmation code, which makes filing easier. If you didn’t get one, you can still apply by entering your details manually on the site. You will need to state under oath that Siri was unintentionally activated during a private moment.

Each qualified device is worth up to $20. However, the final amount you receive will depend on how many people submit claims. You can apply for up to five devices, which means the maximum payment for a single user is $100. The more claims that are filed, the lower each payout could be.

While the settlement has been reached, the court still needs to give final approval. A hearing for this is scheduled for August 1. If the judge agrees with the terms, payments will begin to go out soon after. Until then, all claims are being collected and processed through the official website.

This lawsuit is a reminder of how voice assistants, while helpful, can also raise privacy concerns. Apple has stated that it did not misuse customer data, but the settlement allows users to receive compensation without a trial. If you qualify, don’t miss the deadline. Take a few minutes to check your eligibility and submit your claim.

You can file now on the official settlement site and claim your share of the Apple Siri lawsuit fund before the July 2 deadline.
