Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to sealing a deal to sign 22-year-old right-back Marc Pubill from Spanish club Almeria. The transfer fee is expected to be about €15 million (£13 million), with additional performance-based bonuses included.
This move comes as the Premier League side seeks a new full-back after Nelson Semedo’s contract expired at the end of June. Though Wolves had offered Semedo a new four-year contract before the season ended, his exit has not been formally announced.
Marc Pubill had a strong 2023–24 season with Almeria. He played 40 matches across all competitions, scoring once and assisting five times. His consistent performance made him one of the standout players at the Spanish club, who were relegated to the second tier last season.
Before joining Almeria, Pubill had attracted interest from top clubs. Barcelona had explored a potential transfer in the summer of 2023, after a planned move to Italy’s Atalanta collapsed. Despite staying in Spain, his form continued to draw attention from abroad.
Pubill signed a six-year deal with Almeria in August 2023 and has made 63 appearances since then, scoring two goals and delivering eight assists. His attacking support and defensive reliability have made him a top prospect in Spanish football.
He also has international experience. Pubill has represented Spain at various youth levels, including the under-21 team. He started all four games in the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, where Spain reached the quarterfinals before losing to England. He was also part of Spain’s squad that won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
His early development included time in the youth academies of Gimnastic de Manresa, Espanyol, and Levante. Pubill made his senior debut with Levante’s B team in December 2020 at just 17 years old. A year later, he played his first match for the Levante senior team.
If the deal is completed, Pubill will be Wolves’ latest addition to the squad under head coach Vitor Pereira. The club recently welcomed 19-year-old Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, and they are working on signing Fluminense winger Jhon Arias. Forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has also joined the club permanently after a successful loan spell last season.
Wolves are aiming to rebuild their squad following several contract changes and outgoing players. Adding young talent like Pubill fits their strategy of building a competitive and long-term team.
The move would also boost Wolves’ defensive options ahead of the new season. Pubill’s versatility, international experience, and potential for growth make him a valuable addition. With the Premier League season fast approaching, Wolves are eager to finalize their squad and make an impact under new leadership.
As negotiations progress, Wolves fans await official confirmation of the transfer, which would mark a promising step forward in the club’s summer plans.
