Travel lovers looking for the best cities to enjoy after dark now have a new guide. Experts have revealed the top destinations for night tourism in 2025. The list was based on key factors like Instagram popularity, late-night venues, safety, and pollution levels. Data came from a detailed study of more than 100 major cities worldwide.
New York, Tokyo, and Dubai lead the ranking, offering safe and exciting night experiences. Each city brings its own charm, whether it’s bright lights, lively streets, or quiet desert skies.
New York took the top spot as the best city for night tourism. With over 2,300 places open late and 40,800 Instagram hashtags showing off its night views, the city proves why it’s called “the city that never sleeps.” From jazz bars in Harlem to rooftop lounges in Manhattan, there’s something for every night owl.
In second place is Tokyo, Japan’s bustling capital. With nearly 1,000 late-night venues and a strong safety score of 75 out of 100, Tokyo blends tradition and neon-lit nightlife. Visitors can enjoy midnight ramen, karaoke bars, and peaceful night walks without worry.
Dubai came in third with a high safety score of 83. It’s also the second most photographed city after dark, with almost 30,000 Instagram hashtags. While it offers fewer night venues than New York and Tokyo, Dubai stands out with luxury nightclubs, open-air lounges, and desert views.
Other cities that made the list include Singapore, Muscat, Kyoto, and Seoul. Singapore, in fourth place, combines modern nightlife with safety, scoring 77 out of 100. The city has 443 night spots and is a favorite for night shopping and waterfront dining.
Muscat, Oman, may not have the most Instagram tags or venues, but it’s a top spot for stargazers. With a light pollution score of only 30, visitors can enjoy clear desert skies, perfect for a quiet night escape.
Kyoto, Japan’s historic city, ranked sixth. With 113 venues and a safety score of 83, it offers a calm and cultural night experience. Visitors can explore temples under soft lighting or enjoy tea houses after dusk.
Sydney and Melbourne also earned spots in the top ten. Sydney placed seventh with 325 venues and a light pollution score of 40. Melbourne, in tenth, offers nearly 300 venues but scored lower on safety. Still, both cities are popular among travelers looking to enjoy city lights, bars, and waterfront views.
Seoul, South Korea, ranked eighth. With 225 night venues and a safety score of 74, the city is well-known for its 24-hour cafes and late-night food markets. Toronto followed in ninth place with 324 venues and a strong online presence with over 18,000 Instagram posts.
The study also pointed out other stand-out cities. Vienna ranked highest among short-haul travel spots, offering over 1,200 night venues and a safety score of 67. The Austrian capital is rich in culture, with night concerts, cafes, and scenic streets.
Abu Dhabi, UAE, was rated the safest city for nighttime visitors. It received the highest safety score on the list—87 out of 100. Although it wasn’t in the top ten for venues or hashtags, its security makes it an appealing choice for cautious travelers.
These rankings help travelers make informed choices based on what matters most—fun, safety, and unique experiences after the sun sets. Whether you’re into bright city lights, peaceful night walks, or stargazing, there’s a perfect city waiting in 2025.
