Vance Boelter, 57, was arrested near his home in Green Isle following a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband. Authorities confirmed the arrest after a nationwide search for Boelter, who is also linked to the shooting of state senator John Hoffman and his wife.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued a nationwide warrant for Boelter’s arrest after he allegedly posed as a police officer early Saturday morning and opened fire on the two political couples. Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed at the scene. Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, survived but required surgery at a hospital.

Governor Tim Walz described the situation as tragic but expressed cautious optimism about the Hoffmans’ recovery. Following the attack, law enforcement imposed a shelter-in-place order in Brooklyn Park while searching for Boelter. The order was lifted after it was confirmed that he had left the area.

The Hoffman family released a statement expressing deep gratitude toward law enforcement and the public for their role in bringing Boelter to justice and keeping the community safe during this difficult time. They said they feel fortunate to be alive and are focused on healing. They also condemned political violence and mourned the loss of Melissa Hortman and her husband.

On Sunday, law enforcement teams converged on Sibley County after discovering a vehicle linked to Boelter. The search of the area is ongoing, though specific details of any findings have not been publicly released.

Boelter is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 220 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was last seen wearing a light cowboy hat, a dark collared jacket, light pants, and carrying a dark bag.

This violent attack has shocked the Minnesota community and raised concerns about safety for public officials. Authorities continue to investigate Boelter’s motives and the circumstances that led to the attack.

The prompt arrest of Vance Boelter has brought some relief after a tense manhunt. The efforts of local and state law enforcement agencies, along with public cooperation, were crucial in locating and detaining the suspect near his residence.

The state mourns the tragic loss of two public servants, Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman, while supporting the recovery of Senator John Hoffman and his wife. The incident has highlighted the urgent need to address political violence and protect elected officials.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension remains involved in the case and has assured the public that thorough steps will be taken to bring justice.
