Azerbaijan’s parliament has ratified a new agreement with China that allows visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders. The decision was made on Friday during a session of the Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan’s parliament. Citizens of both countries can now visit each other without a visa for up to 30 days per trip. The total stay must not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.
The visa exemption only applies to short visits. Travelers who want to stay longer than 30 days must obtain a visa in advance. This also applies to those seeking residence, employment, education, or jobs in regulated fields such as media. Both countries have the right to suspend the agreement partially or fully if national security, public order, or public health concerns arise. Prior diplomatic notice is required in such cases.
The agreement was signed in late April in Beijing during a ceremony attended by the leaders of Azerbaijan and China. It marks a step forward in the growing partnership between the two nations. This move is expected to boost tourism and business exchanges by making travel easier.
Azerbaijan aims to attract more Chinese visitors, who represent a large global tourist market. At the same time, Azerbaijani citizens will benefit from easier access to China. The visa-free travel deal supports deeper economic and cultural ties and fits into broader cooperation efforts, including digital infrastructure projects between the two countries.
