Bella Hadid is opening up about her ongoing battle with chronic illness. The 28-year-old model shared two posts on her Instagram Stories on November 14, addressing her struggles with Lyme disease. In one, she reposted a meme about the frustrations of living with a chronic illness. In another, she shared a post from influencer Alexandra Wildeson about the “duality” of chronic illness, adding, “The medical anxiety is soooooo real. Thank you for putting every one of my thoughts and daily situations into one swipe. The truuuuuth!”
Hadid has faced significant health challenges in recent months. In September, she shared photos from a hospital bed while receiving treatment for Lyme disease, showing herself hooked up to IV bags. “I’m sorry I always go MIA I love you guys,” she wrote at the time. Days later, she posted images of herself walking on a treadmill, calling it her “first day in the gym in a long time” and emphasizing her efforts to rebuild stamina. That same month, she also walked the runway for Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week.
Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, shared her own perspective on Bella’s struggle, describing the “helplessness” of watching her daughter face the illness in silence. She called Bella a “warrior” and described the experience as an “unknown hell.” Bella was first diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, alongside her mother and brother Anwar. Over the years, she has experienced severe joint pain, anxiety, brain fog, extreme fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms.
In 2023, Bella revealed she was “finally healthy” after completing 100 days of intensive treatment for Lyme disease. She wrote on Instagram that nearly 15 years of invisible suffering had been worth it, expressing gratitude for the ability to live fully and authentically.
