Nintendo might increase the price of its new Switch 2 console in the United States. The company shared this possibility after releasing a lower-than-expected sales forecast for the upcoming year. The decision will depend on trade conditions and tariffs.

    Nintendo expects lower shipment numbers

Nintendo plans to ship about 15 million units of the Switch 2 during the year ending in March. Analysts expected around 16.8 million, so the company’s goal is lower than what the market had hoped for. The announcement caused concern among investors.

Nintendo also predicts a yearly profit of 320 billion yen, or about 2.2 billion US dollars. This is well below expert estimates. Many expected a stronger performance because pre-orders for the new console have been high. The Switch 2 will sell for about 450 dollars, and there were early signs that it could become the fastest-selling console ever.

Price may rise due to tariffs

The final price of the Switch 2 in the United States may change. Nintendo makes most of its consoles in China. Because of trade tensions between the US and China, the company may face higher costs. If new tariffs are introduced or existing ones increase, the company could raise the retail price in the US market.

Nintendo has not made a final decision yet, but it is closely watching the situation. The company said it expects tariffs to reduce profit by several billion yen. That cost might be passed on to buyers in some markets.

Demand is strong but uncertainty remains

Even with the lower forecast, the Switch 2 is getting strong early interest. Many fans are excited about the launch. Pre-orders have been high, and the company hopes to match the success of the original Switch.

When the first Switch launched in 2017, Nintendo sold 15 million units in the first 10 months. The company says it is using that figure as a benchmark for the Switch 2. This goal does not include possible problems with supply. Nintendo is also considering other important factors like manufacturing costs and market conditions.

    Mixed views from industry analysts

Some market watchers say Nintendo is being careful. They believe the company is trying not to promise too much in advance. Others think the company may be limiting supply on purpose to create more interest and urgency.

There is also a concern that keeping the console in short supply may upset buyers. However, it could help create strong demand, especially during the first few months of release.

    A major step for Nintendo

This launch is a big moment for Nintendo. The original Switch was released eight years ago and helped the company bounce back after the slow sales of the Wii U. The Switch became a major success and has kept the company profitable for years.

Now, Nintendo needs the Switch 2 to keep that momentum going. In the most recent quarter, which ended in March, the company’s profit dropped by 46 percent. Nintendo earned only 35 billion yen in that period. Over the full year, it sold 10.8 million Switch consoles and 155.4 million software units.

These numbers show that interest in the original Switch is fading. Nintendo hopes the new console will bring back strong sales and new excitement.

    Global trade risks add pressure

The risk of a price increase is just one of the challenges Nintendo faces. The company still relies heavily on Chinese factories. Trade issues between the US and China are ongoing, and new tariffs could affect production costs.

If tariffs go up, Nintendo might have to raise prices to protect its profit. This would mainly affect customers in the United States, which is one of its biggest markets. The company said it has not made any pricing changes yet but is leaving the option open.

    What customers should expect

Buyers should be aware that the price of the Switch 2 could go up. This may happen if tariffs increase or if production becomes more expensive. Nintendo also said there may be limited stock during the early months. That could make it hard for some people to find the console right after launch.

Still, many fans are excited. The Switch 2 has strong features and support from game developers. It is likely to be one of the top-selling consoles in the coming year.
