Samsung is bringing a new option for premium TVs with its Micro RGB TV. While it is not a true Micro LED display, this $30,000, 114.5-inch model combines advanced backlighting with Micro LED-sized diodes to deliver a next-level viewing experience. For many, this could be the closest thing to Micro LED available today.

The Micro RGB TV is positioned between Mini LED and Micro LED. Unlike true Micro LED TVs, it uses a backlight system. This backlight is unique because it produces red, green, and blue light with tiny RGB LEDs. Traditional LCD-LED TVs mostly use blue or white backlighting combined with color filters. Samsung’s approach allows more precise color control and a larger color range.

The pixels in the Micro RGB TV are not self-emissive. This means they cannot turn off individually like in Micro LED or OLED displays. However, the TV still achieves improved contrast through thousands of local dimming zones. Samsung claims the Micro RGB TV has around four times the number of dimming zones compared to its 115-inch QN90F Mini LED TV. The 75-inch QN90F model has 900 dimming zones, suggesting the Micro RGB could have several thousand.

Although it does not reach the same contrast levels as true Micro LED or OLED, the Micro RGB TV stands out for its wide color gamut. Samsung says the backlight’s architecture allows precise control of every red, green, and blue LED. This enables coverage of 100 percent of the BT.2020 color space, which is wider than DCI-P3. While Samsung has not shared Delta E measurements, the company assures high color accuracy.

The Micro RGB TV demonstrates what premium displays may look like in the future. By combining a Mini LED-style backlight with Micro LED-sized diodes, Samsung offers a display with vibrant colors, excellent brightness, and better local dimming than typical Mini LED TVs. This innovation may influence the next generation of high-end TVs.

For buyers who prioritize color accuracy and brightness over perfect contrast or full self-emissive pixels, the Micro RGB TV is a compelling option. Its size and price put it out of reach for most consumers, but it signals the potential of RGB backlight technology for future displays.

Samsung’s approach may serve as a bridge between today’s Mini LED and tomorrow’s Micro LED technologies. By improving backlight control and expanding color coverage, the Micro RGB TV demonstrates that premium TVs are evolving in more ways than one.

This TV shows that high-end display technology does not have to rely solely on Micro LED to offer rich, vivid colors. With precise RGB backlighting and thousands of dimming zones, Samsung Micro RGB TV provides a preview of what viewers can expect from the next wave of large-screen TVs.
