The Miami Dolphins recorded their first victory of the season with a 27-21 home win over the New York Jets. However, the triumph was overshadowed by a serious injury to star receiver Tyreek Hill, who left the game with a dislocated left knee, likely ending his season.

Hill, a five-time All-Pro, was injured in the third quarter while making a catch near the Jets’ sideline. After landing awkwardly on his left leg, he was helped off the field and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel confirmed the severity of the injury and praised Hill’s positive attitude despite the setback.

“He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever seen [have] such a terrible experience,” McDaniel said. “He immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’”

Since entering the NFL in 2017, Hill has amassed 11,363 receiving yards, the most in the league over that span, along with 819 catches, ranking fourth behind Davante Adams, Travis Kelce, and Stefon Diggs. Former teammate Patrick Mahomes shared his support on social media, posting, “Prayers up man…..”

Darren Waller, who returned to the NFL after retiring in June 2024, made a strong impact in his first game in nearly two years. The 33-year-old tight end scored twice, including a fourth-and-goal reception from Tua Tagovailoa in the second quarter and a nine-yard touchdown in the third, giving Miami a 17-3 lead. Waller finished with three catches for 27 yards.

“It’s a lot to process, a lot emotionally, to be honest,” Waller said. “Very exciting. Just to be out there the whole day, yeah. A little bit of fear, a little bit of everything … Just trying to get back out there, get into a rhythm and be someone this team can rely on.”

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 17 of 25 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover. His performance improved Miami to 7-0 against the Jets as the team’s starter. The Dolphins also rushed for 123 yards, led by De’von Achane’s 99 yards on 20 carries, including a nine-yard touchdown run.

New York quarterback Justin Fields returned from a Week 3 concussion and completed 20 of 27 passes for 226 yards. He also rushed for 81 yards, including a 43-yard fourth-and-one touchdown run that narrowed the score to 17-10. Garrett Wilson added a 23-yard catch and a two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter, but the Jets could not recover an onside kick as Miami secured the win.

The Jets totaled 404 yards, with 197 on the ground, averaging seven yards per carry. However, three turnovers and 13 penalties for 101 yards hindered their efforts, including an offensive pass interference that wiped out a touchdown in the third quarter. New York remains winless at 0-4 under coach Aaron Glenn.

In Monday night’s later game, the Denver Broncos defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 28-3. Bo Nix threw for 326 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while Denver amassed 186 rushing yards. Cincinnati, struggling without star quarterback Joe Burrow due to a toe injury, fell to 2-2 for the season after opening 2-0.
