Israel Blames Hamas for Rafah Aid Site Deaths, Shares Drone Video

At least 31 people were killed on Sunday near an aid distribution point in Rafah, southern Gaza. Israel denied any involvement in the shooting and blamed Hamas for attacking civilians who were trying to collect food.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released drone footage showing people running and what they claimed were armed men shooting in the area. According to the IDF, the gunmen were members of Hamas who fired at civilians to prevent aid from being distributed. The IDF said Hamas is doing everything it can to stop food from reaching people in Gaza.

The attack happened at a site supported by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an organization backed by the United States and Israel. Gaza’s health ministry, which is run by Hamas, claimed that Israeli forces opened fire at the scene. It said all of the victims were shot in the head or chest while waiting for aid.

An official from the Palestine Red Crescent Society said that Israeli troops were likely responsible because the area was under Israeli military control. Another medical worker told reporters that it was still unclear who fired the shots, but since the area is controlled by Israel, they must be held responsible for what happens there.

The Israeli military rejected the claims and said that no Israeli soldier fired any shots near or inside the aid distribution point. It asked the media to be careful when sharing information from Hamas and warned that some of the reports were false.

Hamas described the deaths as a massacre of innocent civilians who were only looking for food. The shooting came shortly after Hamas replied to a U.S. ceasefire offer. The United States later said the Hamas response was not acceptable.

Rafah has been one of the most affected areas in Gaza. Many people who fled from other parts of Gaza are now staying there. Aid groups say conditions in Rafah are very bad, with limited food, water, and shelter. The United Nations has warned that over half of Gaza’s population is at risk of hunger.

Since the war began in October 2023, aid deliveries into Gaza have faced many problems. Border closures, fighting, and security concerns often stop trucks from reaching people in need. The World Food Programme and other groups say more needs to be done to ensure safe delivery of food and medical supplies.

Efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to stop the war have failed so far. The latest proposal involved Hamas releasing hostages in exchange for a break in fighting, but no agreement has been reached. The situation on the ground remains tense, and the people of Gaza are suffering the most.

Rights groups have asked for an independent investigation into the Rafah incident. Because of limited access, it is difficult to confirm what really happened. Humanitarian workers and civilians continue to face great danger every day.

This latest violence in Rafah shows how urgent it is to find a peaceful solution. The people need food, shelter, and safety. International leaders are calling for both sides to protect civilians and allow aid to reach those in need.
