The U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Committee has voted to subpoena billionaire Leslie Wexner for a deposition regarding his ties to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia confirmed the action on Wednesday, noting that subpoenas were also issued to the executors of Epstein’s estate.
Wexner, the former CEO and founder of Victoria’s Secret-owner L Brands, has previously drawn scrutiny due to Epstein managing his personal finances and serving as trustee of Wexner’s charitable foundation. The billionaire has not faced any criminal charges in connection with Epstein. Representatives from the Wexner Foundation did not immediately comment.
The panel’s approval of the subpoenas comes as Republicans hold a slim majority in the House. The move signals growing congressional efforts to clarify the nature of Wexner’s relationship with Epstein and examine broader connections to influential figures.
In parallel, the Justice Department is under pressure to release files tied to criminal probes of Epstein. During his presidency, Donald Trump initially attempted to keep the documents sealed but later complied with a congressional transparency law requiring their review. Epstein, who was acquainted with Trump in the 1990s, died in jail in 2019. Trump has said he had a falling-out with Epstein long before his death.
The Justice Department reported in late December that it still had 5.2 million pages of documents relating to Epstein’s investigations pending review. These files involve connections with numerous politicians and high-profile figures from various sectors, highlighting the wide-reaching scope of the Epstein network.
Congressional oversight officials say the subpoenas are part of ongoing efforts to uncover the full extent of Epstein’s financial and personal ties to prominent individuals. The committee’s actions may also shed light on the management of Epstein’s estate and the role of key associates.
As the process unfolds, Wexner’s deposition and the review of the estate’s executors are expected to provide lawmakers with critical details about Epstein’s operations and the involvement of influential benefactors. Observers note that the hearings could have significant implications for public understanding of the Epstein case and the accountability of those connected to him.
