A Pennsylvania Senior Assault Case has caused deep concern after police charged a 22-year-old man with raping a 95-year-old woman at a senior living community in Montgomery County. Investigators say the crime happened inside the woman’s home while she was asleep during the early morning hours.
Police said the attack took place on May 10, 2025, at a senior housing complex in Lansdale. The woman told officers she woke up around 3 a.m. and saw a man standing inside her bedroom. She said the man spoke to her and then sexually assaulted her while she was still in bed. Authorities described the victim as elderly and vulnerable.
The woman later told police that the man stayed inside her home for nearly an hour. She said he walked back and forth and begged her not to report the attack. Investigators said the man left through the front door, which was unlocked at the time. The woman reported the incident days later, on May 14, when police were called to the community.
Police identified the suspect as John Vernon Gray, 22, from Telford, Pennsylvania. He now faces several charges. These include rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, burglary, and related offenses. Authorities stressed that the charges are accusations and that the case will be decided in court.
On the same morning as the attack, police in a nearby township responded to a mental health emergency about one mile from the senior community. Officers found a man who appeared to be in crisis and took him to a hospital for treatment. Investigators later said this man was Gray.
Detectives spent months reviewing evidence. They examined phone records and location data. They also collected forensic evidence from the victim’s clothing. Police said DNA testing matched Gray to material found during the investigation. This match became a key part of the case.
Investigators also linked Gray to other incidents at the same senior community. Police said that earlier on May 10, someone tried to break into the home of a 79-year-old woman at the facility. No serious injuries were reported in that case, but detectives believe the events are connected.
Authorities said Gray may also be tied to two more break-ins that happened on November 8, 2025. These incidents occurred at the same senior living community and a nearby facility. During one of those events, a woman was indecently assaulted, according to court documents. Police are still reviewing evidence tied to those cases.
After one of the November incidents, officers followed a car leaving the area. The vehicle led them to an apartment on Stockton Drive. Investigators said Gray lived there with his girlfriend. When police spoke with him, they noted that he was wearing clothing similar to what the suspect wore during one of the break-ins.
At this time, prosecutors have only filed charges connected to the May 10 rape case. Police said the investigation remains active. Additional charges may follow if enough evidence is found.
Gray is currently being held at the Montgomery County Prison. A judge denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges and concerns about public safety. Court records show that no defense attorney is listed yet.
In January 2026, police searched a home in Telford that may be linked to the investigation. Neighbors reported seeing officers at the property. Authorities have not said whether they recovered any evidence during the search.
Officials said the case has raised serious concerns about safety at senior housing communities. Police urged residents and families to report suspicious behavior and ensure doors are locked at night. They also encouraged anyone with information related to the case to contact investigators.
The Pennsylvania Senior Assault Case remains under review as authorities work to determine whether the suspect is connected to other crimes.
