A Chicago man accused of killing his ex-wife and her husband has waived extradition and will be transferred to Ohio to face murder charges.

Michael McKee, 39, is charged with premeditated aggravated murder in the deaths of Monique Tepe and her husband, dentist Spencer Tepe. The couple was killed at their Columbus home on December 30, 2025, according to police.

McKee appeared Monday in Rockford, Illinois, wearing a yellow jumpsuit. He did not enter a plea. His public defender said he plans to plead not guilty. A status hearing for his transfer to Ohio is scheduled for January 19.

Authorities linked McKee to a vehicle captured on surveillance footage near the Tepe home. He was arrested on Saturday. The arrest came one day before a scheduled celebration of life for the couple.

McKee and Monique Tepe were married in 2015 and divorced in 2017. They did not have any children together. Spencer and Monique Tepe married in December 2020 and are survived by two young children who were unharmed during the attack.

The family released a statement saying McKee’s arrest is an important step toward justice. “Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon,” the statement said. “We are grateful to law enforcement for their work. We trust the justice system to hold the responsible person fully accountable.”

The family added they will continue to honor the lives of Spencer and Monique while supporting their children. “Monique and Spencer remain at the center of our hearts,” the statement said. “We carry forward their love as we surround and protect the two children they leave behind.”

McKee’s case will proceed in Ohio, where authorities plan to pursue premeditated murder charges. The investigation into the killings remains active, with law enforcement reviewing evidence and witness accounts.

The Ohio double murder has drawn significant attention due to the circumstances of the attack and the survival of the couple’s children. Police described the case as “disturbing” and stressed the importance of bringing the suspect to justice.

Michael McKee will face Ohio courts in the coming weeks. The case is expected to involve detailed hearings regarding his alleged actions on the night of December 30. Families and community members continue to mourn the loss of Spencer and Monique Tepe while awaiting the legal process.
