Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always found unique ways to connect with people, from his widely recognized Chai Pe Charcha campaign before the 2014 elections to his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio program. In his latest effort, he has initiated interactive sessions with BJP legislators, providing them with guidance on governance, constituency development, and people engagement.
On Sunday evening in Bhopal, the Prime Minister held an extensive two-hour session with BJP lawmakers from Madhya Pradesh. According to party sources, similar interactions are expected to continue across other states as part of a broader outreach initiative.
Strengthening Bonds Through Shared Meals
During the discussion, PM Modi emphasized the significance of personal connections with party workers and constituents. He highlighted how sharing meals can foster stronger relationships within the party. “He talked about how he carries his tiffin and shares it with party workers. This practice allows for informal yet meaningful discussions about governance and developmental work,” said a BJP MLA who attended the session.
Modi explained that such interactions are crucial for maintaining trust and transparency within the party. By breaking bread together, leaders can create a more approachable and cohesive political environment, making grassroots workers feel valued and heard.
The Role of MLAs and MPs in Local Development
The Prime Minister urged legislators to focus on their constituency’s growth by developing a structured master plan. He advised them to keep governance at the forefront and maintain a consistent connection with the people they represent.
“He told us that governance should not be about politics but about improving lives,” said another MLA. Modi encouraged leaders to actively meet their constituents, listen to their issues, and ensure the successful implementation of government schemes.
Building Positive Relationships with Officials
Addressing the legislators, Modi stressed the importance of fostering healthy working relationships with government officials. “Do not engage in conflicts with bureaucrats. Instead, collaborate with them to ensure that work gets done efficiently,” an MLA recalled Modi saying.
The Prime Minister’s advice highlighted a practical approach to governance—stressing that cooperation rather than confrontation leads to better results. He encouraged BJP lawmakers to work as a team with administrators to drive development initiatives in their respective regions.
Empowering Women Through Government Schemes
Another key focus of Modi’s discussion was the empowerment of women. He urged MLAs to engage with women beneficiaries of various government schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
“He told us that we should visit homes of women who have benefited from these schemes and encourage them to make the best use of government programs,” a legislator shared. The PM recounted an instance where he requested a Ujjwala scheme beneficiary to prepare tea for him using her LPG connection, showcasing the direct impact of the initiative on everyday lives.
Previous Interactions in Other States
Before the Bhopal meeting, similar interactions were held in Odisha in November and Maharashtra in January. In Odisha, BJP state president Manmohan Samal described the session as “family-like” and informal, where Modi shared personal insights on leadership and governance.
In Maharashtra, the Prime Minister provided a list of dos and don’ts, drawing lessons from his own experiences. He emphasized that politics should be a tool to serve the people rather than a means for personal gain. Modi also advised BJP members to undergo annual health check-ups and dedicate time to their families, stressing the importance of work-life balance.
A Continued Tradition of Engagement
Throughout his tenure, PM Modi has made direct engagement with party members a priority. In his first two terms, he regularly interacted with BJP MPs during Parliament sessions, often hosting state-wise meetings over dinners or lunches. These gatherings allowed him to communicate his vision effectively while fostering unity within the party.
As PM Modi continues these Dinner Pe Charcha sessions, they serve as an essential platform for reinforcing the core principles of governance, development, and people-centric leadership. With more interactions planned across states, the initiative is expected to further strengthen BJP’s grassroots network and enhance governance efficiency at all levels.
