Russia sent 1,200 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians by train on Friday. This is the first time since the war started over three years ago that so many bodies were sent near Kyiv. Ukrainian forensic experts are now working to identify the remains.

Despite high tensions, both sides agreed last month in Istanbul to exchange 6,000 dead soldiers and prisoners of war. This agreement prioritizes the release of sick and seriously injured prisoners and those under 25 years old.

However, Moscow has accused Kyiv of failing to return Russian soldiers’ bodies on Friday. The intense fighting continues between the two countries.

Kyiv claims it has successfully pushed back Russian attacks. Meanwhile, Moscow says its forces have captured another village in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says his forces are actively pushing Russian troops back from the border area.

Open-source maps supporting Ukraine show Russia has taken control of more than 190 square kilometers in the Sumy region in less than a month.
