The Kansas City Chiefs have added two new players to their offseason roster following strong performances during their rookie minicamp tryouts last week. On Tuesday, the team signed wide receiver Jimmy Holiday and linebacker Cooper McDonald after both impressed coaches with their skills and work ethic.

Chiefs Strengthen Depth with Holiday and McDonald

The Chiefs invited several undrafted free agents to their rookie minicamp, which took place at the team’s training facility in Kansas City. After reviewing their performances, the Chiefs decided to offer contracts to two standout players.

Jimmy Holiday, a former Louisiana Tech wide receiver, is known for his speed and agility. Over five years of college football, Holiday gained 913 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns. His ability to create space and make quick cuts could make him a valuable asset for the Chiefs’ offense, especially in special teams or as a backup wideout.

Cooper McDonald, a linebacker from Texas Christian University (TCU), also earned a spot on the team. McDonald brings solid experience and physical play to the Chiefs’ defense. In his college career, he recorded 137 total tackles and eight sacks. His strong tackling and field awareness made him stand out during minicamp.

    Official Reports Confirm Signings

The signings were first reported on Tuesday by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest through separate Twitter posts. Though the team has not released official statements yet, these reports confirm that Holiday and McDonald have joined the Chiefs’ offseason program.

Underdog Journey: Can They Make the Final Roster?

Making the jump from undrafted tryouts to the 53-man regular season roster is not easy. However, both players now have the chance to prove themselves during organized team activities (OTAs) and training camp.

Holiday will likely compete with a group of wide receivers fighting for depth roles, especially on special teams. His versatility and return ability might help his case.

McDonald, meanwhile, enters a linebacker room with a mix of veterans and young players. If he can continue to show good instincts and strong tackling, he could carve out a role, especially on special teams or as a backup linebacker.

Chiefs Have History with Undrafted Success

The Kansas City Chiefs have found success with undrafted free agents in the past. Players like wide receiver Justyn Ross and running back Isiah Pacheco have made strong contributions after being overlooked in the NFL Draft.

This gives hope to players like Holiday and McDonald. Head coach Andy Reid and his staff have shown they are willing to give every player a fair shot, regardless of draft status.

What Comes Next for Holiday and McDonald

With minicamp completed, the next steps are offseason workouts and team practices. Both players will need to show consistent improvement and stay healthy if they want a real shot at making the team.

The NFL preseason in August will be their biggest test. These games will offer them the chance to showcase their talent in live action against other NFL hopefuls.

    Why These Signings Matter

Adding young, hungry talent is always important for a Super Bowl-contending team like the Chiefs. These signings show that the team is constantly looking for players who can help win now and develop for the future.

It also gives fans something exciting to follow during the offseason. Will Holiday make a big catch in preseason? Can McDonald lead the team in tackles during an exhibition game? These stories help build anticipation for the regular season.
