Makati Life Medical Center (MLMC) was honored with the prestigious “Integrated Healthcare Provider of the Year” award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025, held in Malaysia over the weekend. This recognition marks a major milestone for the Philippines’ first tertiary public-private partnership (PPP) hospital, acknowledging its innovative, inclusive, and tech-driven approach to modern health care.
The award was presented by Healthcare Asia Magazine, a publication under the Singapore-based Charlton Media Group. It celebrates hospitals and health systems across Asia that have shown strong leadership, introduced groundbreaking healthcare models, and delivered real results in improving patient care.
A Healthcare Milestone in the Philippines
Makati Life Medical Center earned top marks for its integrated health system—seamlessly combining primary care, diagnostics, specialty care, and treatment under one roof. This approach allows most patients to complete their consultations, tests, and procedures within a single visit.
“This recognition highlights the success of a model that blends private sector efficiency with public sector accessibility,” said Dr. Dennis Sta. Ana, President and CEO of MLMC. “We’re proving that high-quality, inclusive healthcare is not just a vision—it’s a reality.”
Public-Private Partnership That Works
Under a unique partnership with the city government of Makati, MLMC is managed and operated by Life Nurture Inc., a private healthcare company. While the city provided the hospital shell and land, Life Nurture Inc. invested up to ₱10 billion to complete and run the facility.
This model removes the usual economic divide in healthcare. Whether a patient holds a Makati Yellow Card, has HMO insurance, or pays privately, everyone receives the same level of care.
“Everyone receives the same dignity in care, no matter how they pay. We don’t draw lines between government-sponsored and private patients,” added Dr. Sta. Ana.
Rapid Access and Streamlined Care
Since the opening of the Primary Care Center in May 2024, the hospital has already served tens of thousands of patients. On average, MLMC caters to over 800 patients daily, with 70% seen through scheduled appointments. This system has greatly reduced waiting times and improved care coordination.
Patients benefit from services such as:
- Laboratory and imaging diagnostics
- Outpatient surgeries
- Specialty clinics
- Follow-up consultations
All services are conveniently located in one building—helping patients save time and get faster results.
Smart, Digital-First Hospital of the Future
MLMC is designed as a digital-first smart hospital, aiming for HIMSS certification—a global recognition from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Features of this smart system include:
- AI-powered ICU monitoring
- 24/7 outpatient services
- Electronic medical records
- Real-time appointment booking
This advanced setup improves both patient safety and operational efficiency, setting a new standard for hospitals in the region.
Focusing on Human Experience
More than just high-tech tools, MLMC also introduced a unique “Human Experience” model. This program enhances the well-being of both patients and staff by offering:
- Comfortable rest areas
- Better working conditions
- Ongoing training and development
This approach aims to create a healing environment where compassion and care are at the center of every interaction.
Upcoming Launch and Advanced Care Services
MLMC is preparing for its full launch this year, including specialized centers for:
- Cancer treatment (with linear accelerators)
- Heart and critical care
- Robotic surgery
- Advanced surgical procedures
These services aim to provide world-class healthcare technologies to more Filipinos, helping improve survival rates and health outcomes.
Shaping the Future of Philippine Healthcare
Makati Life Medical Center’s inclusive and scalable care model is being hailed as a blueprint for the future of healthcare in the Philippines.
“This isn’t just a hospital—it’s a health-care movement,” said Dr. Sta. Ana. “Makati Life is a model for what Philippine health care can become: inclusive, innovative, and deeply human.”
The 2025 Healthcare Asia Awards also recognized leading hospitals from countries like India, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia, placing the Philippines on the regional stage for medical innovation and leadership.
