A Wisconsin woman who admitted stabbing a classmate in 2014 to please the online character Slender Man is missing, authorities said. Morgan Geyser, now 23, cut off her electronic monitoring bracelet and left a group home on Saturday evening.
Madison police issued an alert Sunday, saying Geyser was last seen around 8pm with an adult acquaintance. Authorities urged anyone who sees her to call 911.
Geyser was placed in the group home earlier this year after being conditionally released from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She had been sent to the psychiatric facility in 2018 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide to avoid prison.
Her attorney, Tony Cotton, said he does not know her whereabouts and urged her to turn herself in. He stressed it is in her best interest to do so immediately and cautioned that the facts of the situation remain unclear.
Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, were 12 years old when they lured classmate Payton Leutner to a Milwaukee-area park after a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner more than a dozen times while Weier encouraged her. Leutner survived the attack.
The girls told investigators they attacked Leutner to become “servants” of Slender Man, a fictional online figure created by Eric Knudsen in 2009, fearing he would harm their families if they did not comply.
Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide, was sent to a psychiatric center, and was released in 2021.
