Türkiye has condemned Israel for seizing a Gaza-bound aid boat on Monday. The vessel, named Madleen, was trying to break the naval blockade around Gaza. It carried 12 people, including Turkish citizens and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. The Turkish government said Israel’s action violated international law and posed a threat to safety at sea.

The Israeli navy stopped the boat as it neared Gaza’s coast. The yacht is registered in the United Kingdom and was part of a mission by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The group organizes peaceful voyages to deliver aid and raise awareness of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis. After boarding the vessel, Israeli forces redirected it to a port in Israel. No injuries were reported, and the passengers were taken into custody for questioning.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said the voyage was symbolic. The boat carried only a small amount of aid but aimed to highlight the suffering in Gaza caused by the blockade. The group included activists, journalists, and aid workers from different countries. They had all received training in peaceful resistance.

The Israeli government has enforced a naval blockade on Gaza since 2007. It says the blockade is needed to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas, which controls Gaza. But many human rights groups say the blockade causes severe hardship for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

Greta Thunberg joined the mission to support the people of Gaza. She has spoken out about the war and the humanitarian situation in the region. Her presence on the boat drew international attention to the voyage. Other passengers were also committed to peaceful protest and helping people in need.

Türkiye reacted quickly to the incident. Officials said Israeli forces had no right to stop a peaceful vessel in international waters. They called for the immediate release of the boat’s crew and demanded that all Turkish citizens be returned safely. The Turkish Foreign Ministry also called on other countries to respond to Israel’s actions.

This is not the first time Israel has stopped an aid flotilla. In 2010, Israeli forces raided the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship in a similar mission. That raid ended with 10 activists killed and caused a major diplomatic crisis between Türkiye and Israel. Since then, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition has continued to organize missions, though most are blocked before reaching Gaza.

The situation in Gaza remains very serious. Most of the population relies on aid. There is a shortage of food, medicine, fuel, and clean water. The United Nations and many humanitarian groups have warned that conditions are getting worse, especially during times of conflict. The ongoing blockade makes it difficult for supplies to enter and for people to leave.

International responses to this latest incident are starting to emerge. Human rights groups and pro-Palestinian organizations have condemned Israel’s action. Some lawmakers in Europe are calling for an investigation. The United Nations has not yet released an official statement, but it has criticized the blockade in past reports.

Türkiye and Israel have had a tense relationship in recent years, mainly because of the Gaza issue. This new incident could increase tensions again. Türkiye says it will keep working to protect its citizens and support the people of Gaza.

As of now, the boat and its crew are in Israeli custody. The situation is still developing. Daljoog News will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they happen.
