A man was arrested in Culpeper, Virginia, after allegedly driving his SUV into a group of protesters. The incident happened as a “No Kings” rally was ending on James Madison Highway, police confirmed.

The Culpeper Police Department said officers were monitoring the protest when 21-year-old Joseph R. Checklick Jr., a local resident, intentionally accelerated his vehicle into the crowd as it dispersed. At least one person was hit, but no serious injuries have been reported.

The protest was organized by the Culpeper Democrats Facebook group. After the incident, they thanked the police for their quick response and for keeping the protest safe.

Checklick is being held without bond at the Culpeper County Jail. Police said more charges may be filed as the investigation continues. Authorities are asking witnesses to come forward with any information to help with the case.

This event raised safety concerns among residents and activists who want stronger protection for peaceful protests. Police emphasized their commitment to protecting the right to protest while ensuring public safety.
