River Plate stayed on top of Group E in the FIFA Club World Cup after a scoreless draw against CF Monterrey in Pasadena, California, on Saturday. The result keeps the Argentine side unbeaten with one win and one draw, earning them four points in the group.

The match ended 0-0, but both teams had chances to take the lead. River Plate came close in the 84th minute with a corner kick but failed to convert. The tension rose during the last moments of the game as the pace increased and fouls became more frequent.

CF Monterrey, who now have two points from two draws, received two yellow cards late in the game. In added time, River Plate’s midfielder Kevin Castaño was sent off after picking up his second yellow card in the 91st minute. This left his team with ten players for the final stretch.

Despite being a man down, River Plate held strong and secured the draw. Monterrey tried to press forward but couldn’t break through the defense. Both sides showed strong defensive form, but neither managed to find the goal.

River Plate looked more threatening in the final third. They had more possession and tried to control the game from midfield. Still, their finishing lacked the sharp edge needed to turn chances into goals. Monterrey focused more on defense and counterattacks, hoping to catch River off guard.

With this draw, River Plate now lead Group E with four points from two matches. Monterrey sits in third place with two points. The next round will be crucial for both teams as they aim to secure a spot in the knockout stage.

River Plate’s coach praised his players for their effort, especially with one less man in the final minutes. He said the team remained calm and stuck to the game plan. He also mentioned that improvements are needed in the attack to win the upcoming matches.

On the other side, Monterrey’s coach said his team played with discipline. He was satisfied with the clean sheet but admitted they need to create more scoring chances. He pointed out that the team must find more ways to be effective in the final third.

The Club World Cup features top clubs from different continents. River Plate, one of the favorites, hopes to continue their strong form and reach the finals. Their next match will be a test of their depth, especially with Castaño suspended after his red card.

Monterrey still has a chance to advance but will need a win in their final group game. They must also hope for other results to go in their favor. The group remains wide open, and every point counts at this stage.

The fans in Pasadena showed strong support, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the game. Both clubs enjoyed large followings, and the energy in the stadium reflected the importance of the match.

As the FIFA Club World Cup continues, all eyes will be on River Plate to see if they can maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the next round. The team has shown strong character so far and looks ready for the challenge ahead.
