In a recent interview, President Donald Trump explained his plan to cut wasteful government spending. He aims to eliminate inefficient agencies. During his conversation with Fox News’ Bret Baier, Trump shared his vision for a smaller, more efficient government and praised billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
Trump’s Plan for a Leaner Government
Trump said that cutting wasteful spending was a key part of his platform. “Look, I ran on this, and the people want me to find it,” he said. His goal is to streamline government operations. Trump also mentioned Musk as a major ally in his effort to reform federal agencies.
“Musk has been terrific,” Trump said. He praised Musk for his help in remaking the government, especially through the new Department of Government Efficiency.
Trump’s Trust in Musk
Trump was asked if he trusted Musk with the task of government reform. He assured the public that Musk was not gaining anything from the role. “Trust Elon? Oh, he’s not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how he can devote the time to it. He’s so into it,” Trump explained. These comments followed a TIME Magazine cover that showed Musk with the presidential desk, highlighting his influence in government matters.
Plans to Dismantle Agencies
Trump shared more details about his plans. He said he had assigned Musk to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which Trump believes is filled with waste. Trump also plans to review other agencies soon.
“I told him [Musk] to do that. Then I’m going to tell him, maybe in 24 hours, to check the Department of Education. He’s going to find the same thing,” Trump said. He also wants to examine the military for potential waste. He estimates billions, or even hundreds of billions, could be saved.
Trump finished by saying that eliminating fraud and waste within the government is what the American people want him to do.
