A professor from the University of California, Berkeley, has died after being shot multiple times in Greece. Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a 43-year-old associate professor of marketing, was visiting the country to see his children when he was killed.

Jeziorski was reportedly shot five times at close range by a masked attacker in a suburb of Athens. The shooter fled the scene and remains unidentified. Local police are still investigating the case.

His death has deeply shaken both the academic community and his family. Jeziorski was well known for his work in marketing and economics. He taught at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where he had been a faculty member for several years.

Jennifer Chatman, the dean of the Haas School, confirmed the news of his death. She shared a heartfelt message expressing the school’s grief and praising Jeziorski’s contributions. “We are heartbroken by news of the tragic and sudden death of Professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski,” she said in a statement. “He was a beloved member of our marketing faculty and the broader Haas community.”

Jeziorski was in Greece to spend time with his children. According to a family fundraiser on the platform WhyDonate, his relatives are now raising money to cover legal fees and to bring his body back to Poland, his homeland. The page notes that the person responsible for the killing is still at large.

Jeziorski’s death has left his colleagues in shock. Zsolt Katona, another professor at the business school, spoke about his friend’s life and work. “Przemek was an outstanding scholar,” he said. “He made key contributions in areas like search advertising and mobile money. His research was widely respected.”

Katona also spoke about Jeziorski’s personal character. “He was more than just a professor,” Katona said. “He was a close friend, a kind colleague, and a caring father to two young children. He was always willing to help others and was full of energy and optimism.”

Colleagues described him as someone who brought life and passion to his work. Katona noted that Jeziorski’s unique mix of cheerfulness and critical thinking made him stand out in the field of marketing.

His sudden death has raised questions and concern among academic and international communities. Greek authorities are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been made yet, and no motive has been shared publicly.

The university also said they are working with authorities and providing support to the family and faculty during this difficult time.

Jeziorski’s passing is not just a loss to his university but also to the field of economics and marketing research. He leaves behind a lasting impact through his studies and the many students he mentored.

The fundraiser aims to ease the financial burden on his grieving family. Supporters from across the world have shared their condolences and memories of Jeziorski, emphasizing how much he meant to them both professionally and personally.

As friends and colleagues remember him, many are calling for justice and answers in the wake of this senseless act of violence. Until then, they mourn the loss of a brilliant mind, a kind friend, and a loving father.
