The Socceroos will face Japan in an important World Cup qualifying match on Thursday at Optus Stadium in Perth. Alessandro Circati, who recovered from a serious ACL injury, is ready to play. This game could nearly secure Australia’s place in the 2026 World Cup.

Circati, 21 years old, injured his left knee in September 2024 during training with Parma, his Italian club. ACL injuries usually keep players out for 9 to 12 months. This made many doubt if he could take part in Australia’s qualifiers. Circati worked hard on his recovery and returned to full matches by April 2025. Now he is prepared to play for the Socceroos in his hometown.

Australia is currently second in Group C of the Asian qualifiers. They have a three-point lead over Saudi Arabia, who are third. A win against Japan would increase Australia’s lead and improve their chances of qualifying directly for the 2026 World Cup.

Japan has already qualified for the World Cup and will field a less experienced team in this match. Some key Japanese players will not play, but Japan remains a strong opponent with skilled players from European clubs and Japan’s top league.

The Socceroos have not beaten Japan since 2009. This match offers a chance to end that 16-year streak. Fans are hopeful for a victory on home soil.
